Privacy policy

What Smart Stopwatch collects, what it does not, and how to have it deleted.

Smart Stopwatch is a set of timing tools for Android and for the web. This policy covers both — the mobile app published on Google Play under the package com.smart_stopwatch.app, and this website.

The short version: the app works without an account, and everything you time stays on your phone unless you decide otherwise. The rest of this page explains the exceptions, because there are three of them, and they are the ones that matter.

Who is responsible

Smart Stopwatch is published by an independent developer. For any question about this policy or about your data, write to privacy@smart-stopwatch.com. We answer in English, French and Arabic.

What stays on your device

By default, the app stores everything locally, in a database that only it can read:

  • Your saved sessions — what you timed, when, for how long, and the name you gave it.
  • Your programs and presets — recipes, workout sequences, Pomodoro cycles, start lists.
  • Photos you attach to a program step, copied into the app's own storage.
  • Your settings — language, appearance, accent colour, digit style.

None of this is sent anywhere. Uninstalling the app deletes all of it, irreversibly and immediately.

If you create an account

An account is entirely optional and the app is fully usable without one. If you create one, we store:

  • Your email address — to identify the account and to reset your password.
  • Your password, hashed. We never store it in a form we could read.
  • The sessions you choose to synchronise, with their names and durations.
  • Your plan, and the dates it starts and ends.

Synchronisation is what an account is for: it lets the same history appear on a phone and in a browser. It only runs on data you have already chosen to save.

We do not sell this data, we do not rent it, and we do not share it with advertisers. It is stored on servers in the European Union.

Advertising

The free version of the app shows a single banner, served by Google AdMob. To choose which advert to show, Google receives from your device:

  • your advertising ID, a resettable identifier that belongs to the device and not to you;
  • technical information about the device and the app — model, Android version, screen size, language;
  • an approximate location, derived from the network address, at the level of a region rather than a street.

This processing is Google's, under its own policy. We never see your advertising ID, and we send Google nothing about what you time.

You can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in Android, under Settings → Privacy → Ads. Deleting it stops personalised advertising; the banner remains, but it is chosen without reference to you.

Notifications

The app asks for permission to send notifications, and asks Android to schedule an exact alarm. This is what makes a timer ring when the app is closed and the screen is off — without it, the operating system suspends the countdown and the alert never fires.

These notifications are scheduled on the device, by the device. Nothing is sent to a server, and no push service is involved.

What we never collect

  • No precise location. The app never asks for GPS and would not know what to do with it.
  • No contacts, no calendar, no microphone, no camera beyond the photo you deliberately pick.
  • No analytics on your behaviour in the app. We do not know which tool you use most.
  • No advertising or tracking identifier of our own, and no third-party tracker other than AdMob.

Children

Smart Stopwatch is a general-audience tool, not designed for or directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, write to us and we will delete it.

How long we keep things

  • Local data lives on your phone until you delete it or uninstall the app.
  • Account data lives until you delete your account, and is erased within 30 days of the request.
  • Server logs, which contain network addresses, are kept 30 days for security and then discarded.

Your rights, and how to use them

Under the GDPR you may access your data, correct it, take it with you, or have it erased. Two of these need no request at all:

You may also lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, we will change the date at the top of this page and announce it in the app before the change takes effect. Past versions are available on request.
